Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has drawn much attention lately with its impressively high interception rates, surpassing 90%, providing a decisive advantage in recent conflicts in the region.
A lesser known yet similarly inventive solution is working behind the scenes to protect the backbone of Israeli infrastructures. The GateScanner Security Dome is a cyber defense system from Sasa Software that intercepts and disarms stealth malware arriving on a broad range of incoming data channels. Described by some as the Israeli Cyber Dome, GateScanner is the brainchild of a small group of developers working from Kibbutz Sasa in the Upper Galilee.
“GateScanner CDR technology was born out of necessity when back in 2012, Kibbutz Sasa’s armor plant ‘Plasan’ had to maximize network security in order to meet demanding standards of a US Army contract. After shopping around for solutions, we realized there were none out there that could meet the stringent requirements of the Americans, so we decided to develop our own.” says Yakov Yeroslav, Founder and CEO of Sasa Software. The resulting GateScanner solution later branched-off to become a stand-alone project – and in 2013 the kibbutz-owned, Sasa Software company was born.

Today, Sasa Software is a highly regarded cybersecurity vendor in Israel, and its content security solutions are staple components in many of Israel’s most vital networks – in government, enterprise, financial services and critical infrastructure – providing world-class network security in one of the most threatened regions of the world.
“The strength of our solutions lies in the content sanitization process, described by the research firm Gartner as ‘Content Disarm and Reconstruction’ (CDR). The CDR process dissembles every incoming file and email, to its most basic components, scans them with multiple anti-virus tools, and then reconstructs them in a proprietary process that breaks-up any malicious code that may have gone undetected – without compromising file functionality”, Yeroslav explains.
The extremely high file disinfection rate – over 99% – is even more impressive when considering that GateScanner blocks not only known malware, but also unknown, undetectable, custom-made malware, the kind often used by state-sponsored cyber offensives and ransomware groups.
Today, GateScanner provides its content security solutions to more than 400 organizations in Israel and around the world, with dedicated CDR-based solutions developed for secure managed file transfer (GateScanner Security Dome) and secure enterprise email (GateScanner Mail Gateway).
Other products in the GateScanner line are secure portable media import stations (GateScanner Kiosk), CDR delivered through API/ICAP (GS Integration Engine), offline multi-AV scanning for computing devices (GateScanner PE), optical diodes for cross-domain air-gapping (GS Injector), and an automated secure medical imaging transfer solution (GS Imaging Gateway),
